# Take nominations to a committee and carry a slate to a decision

## Purpose

Staff and members put candidates forward, and a slated nominee is elected by the committee’s decision.

## How It Works

Staff, or a member in the portal, nominate a candidate to a committee, for an opening, a seat or a position; the nominee is a contact, or a name and an e-mail address until they become one. A committee that takes no nominations refuses them. A member who nominates someone else is recorded as the nominator and the nominee is asked to consent. A nomination is reviewed, then slated, declined or withdrawn. Slating can open the committee’s decision to appoint the nominee, when its rules require one or staff ask, linked to the nomination so that conflicted voters are suggested for recusal. When that decision carries, the nomination is elected with the appointment it produced. A declined nominee is never appointed, even by a decision already open; withdrawing a nomination withdraws its pending decision. Dissolving a committee withdraws its nominations. Product decided that nominations carry the custom fields of their form, which are not built yet. A nominee merged in CRM stays on the merged-away contact today, which the product should correct.

## Relationships

- Relates to `CAP-CMT-MTG-010` because the slate is a decision of the committee.
- Relates to `CAP-CMT-MTG-012` because a carried slate makes the appointment.
- Relates to `CAP-CMT-MTG-019` because Submissions may slate or decline a nomination it reviewed.
