# Task types configuration

## What the Screen Is For

Task categories give work a locally administered classification. The initial five categories can coexist with customer additions.

## What It Shows and Lets People Do

The configuration form edits name and description through version-checked saves. Retired categories disappear from new console choices, while the service still accepts them for new work. Removal asks for confirmation and is protected while any task refers to the category. Dragging writes changed records individually rather than using the service’s atomic ordering endpoint.

## States and Errors

Read-only users receive the catalog without mutation controls. Referenced-record removal is refused. A partially successful drag can leave only part of the requested order committed.

## Patterns It Must Respect

The resource uses the shared configuration catalog, record form and ordered-collection editor. Its non-atomic ordering behavior remains an implementation finding rather than a new policy.
