alternatives:
  - option: Permit wider presentation sharing and refuse data later
why_not: People could discover a presentation that its source sharing prevents them from using.
  - option: Check audiences only in the browser
why_not: Concurrent source changes could invalidate the browser’s earlier check.
consequences:
  - A narrower source must be shared before its presentation can be widened.
  - Source locks are acquired in identifier order to reduce deadlock risk.

# Presentation sharing respects source audiences

## Context

Presentation sharing must remain compatible with the definitions that supply its data.

## Decision

Report and dashboard writes check audience width against locked source definitions, and saved-query narrowing is refused when dependent presentations would retain a wider audience.

## Alternatives Considered

Permit wider presentation sharing and refuse data later: People could discover a presentation that its source sharing prevents them from using.

Check audiences only in the browser: Concurrent source changes could invalidate the browser’s earlier check.

## Consequences

A narrower source must be shared before its presentation can be widened. Source locks are acquired in identifier order to reduce deadlock risk.
