Billing
Purpose and Outcomes
Billing gives an association a place to organize repeated financial work and purchase repayment arrangements. Administrators maintain the reusable setup, controllers oversee work and resolve exceptions, and reviewers inspect the resulting records. Members and customers receive billing messages or owe scheduled amounts without needing access to the staff console.
The area connects a decision about whom to bill with an accountable execution record. It also gives purchasing a financing boundary through which an order can acquire a repayment arrangement and report later payment outcomes. These responsibilities help staff understand the work they requested, the arrangements still outstanding and the exceptions that require attention. Communications delivery and financial settlement remain responsibilities of the services that perform them.
Billing currently runs within Accounting and shares its application access. The recorded direction places the run engine and installment billing in a separate backend while retaining a combined staff experience. That direction defines the ownership target; it does not establish completed migration or verified checkout integration. The product should preserve clear ownership, authorized execution and explainable outcomes as those boundaries change.
Scope and Boundaries
Billing owns reusable instructions, recipient configuration, reviewed work populations, recurring ownership, execution records and repayment arrangements. Its reporting and export contributions describe those owned records.
Accounting supplies units, terms, eligible products and financial records. Commerce owns orders, checkout, down payments and installment tender. CRM supplies party and recipient facts. Platform evaluates access and supplies job execution, saved-query selection, communications delivery and workspace lifecycle coordination. Membership owns its renewal calculations and work.
The present invoice-processing boundary remains inside Accounting. The recorded target gives Commerce responsibility for creating installment invoices from orders. Moving that boundary requires explicit contracts for remote effects and recovery, alongside the remaining Accounting dependencies.
How the Area Is Divided
The Billing module holds the area's configuration, run execution and installment arrangements together. Open it to understand the concepts, staff journeys and design of billing work, or to examine how repayment arrangements connect to purchasing, invoicing and reporting. Its charter and responsibilities identify the dependencies that need contracts when the backend separates from Accounting.
Area-Level Invariants
Workspace ownership bounds Billing records. Recurring and bulk work identify the person whose authority they use, while machine execution retains its own identity. The area keeps ownership of its work and arrangements without absorbing the financial records, people or communications records it references.
A communication request records submission rather than final delivery. Recovery respects committed effects and the transaction boundary of each operation. These boundaries describe the current design; they do not promise a transaction covering an entire run or permanent retention of every historical record.
Open Ownership Questions
The backend split still needs remote contracts for shared Accounting dependencies and Commerce invoice creation. Complete checkout and later collection remain unproved in the pinned source scope.
Product must decide whether installment selection needs individual record visibility beyond the current unit-wide run boundary, how CRM should supply role-based recipients, and which repayment tasks belong in staff pages. Those questions remain recorded with the module's findings and open questions.
