Commerce Responsibilities
How the Product Area Is Divided
Catalog and selling configuration owns the records and calculations that determine what shoppers can buy and how offers are presented. Orders owns checkout, placement and later changes to an order. Fulfilment owns inventory and delivery. This examination covers the catalog module; the other modules appear here to make its dependencies explicit.
Catalog and Selling Configuration
The module owns checkout policies, stores, catalog presentation, merchandise options, pricing configuration, campaigns and recommendation rules. Its six service facets expose staff management operations, shopper reads and functions used during order processing. Promotion release adds an entry to order history without publishing an external event.
The domain invariants identify each enforced guarantee and its enforcement point. They do not make a multi-request console save atomic: merchandise editing, audience reordering and campaign creation with a first code can leave partial results. Recommendation history prevents a repeated completed acceptance from being applied again, but does not establish that simultaneous requests cannot both change the checkout.
Orders
Orders owns checkout carts, placed sales, participant declarations, purchased rights, subsequent sale changes and acquisition records with their cost facts. Its five service facets share a database; four expose HTTP routes and one accepts registration calls. Placement recalculates the purchase and checks any saved assessment before committing the sale, resource claims and delivery registration together.
The referenced invariants identify the actual guarantees and enforcement boundaries. Financial calls use stable request keys, while recovery and the financial projection depend on external replies and scheduled passes. Consumption participates in the consuming application's transaction, and receipts commit stock and acquisition cost together. Local trails retain accountability; business events and submission-stage operations are not published.
Ownership of deferred amendments, installment orchestration and external audit publication remains unresolved. Return authorization updates have no categorical transition guard, and concurrent projection refreshes have no freshness fence. These limits remain findings rather than approved product behavior.
Fulfillment, Shipping and Inventory
This module coordinates sale delivery, warehouse preparation and physical-stock accounting. Fulfillment retains delivery conditions and outcomes; Shipping retains preparation, carrier and return-receiving work; Inventory retains places, stock ledgers, counts and warehouse findings. Operations serves shared attention records, and collection data jobs provide historical loading under the owning collection authority.
The structured contracts identify each local guarantee and enforcement point. Delivery follow-up, carrier uncertainty, return money continuation and concurrent pick-list creation have recorded gaps, so the module does not provide one atomic process across all these stages. Orders owns sale and post-sale documents, Accounting owns financial execution, and Platform supplies shared authorization, integrations and job infrastructure. Purchasing, costing, shared-ledger writers and warehouse attention remain product boundary decisions.
What Is Delegated to Platform and Other Areas
Accounting owns product definitions, financial prices and financial transactions. Commerce combines those products with its own catalog records and delegates product writes to Accounting. Orders owns checkouts, orders and download grants; it supplies transaction boundaries for the participating placement functions. Fulfilment supplies stock handling.
Platform supplies eligibility, extension execution, security and shared infrastructure. Membership supplies qualification facts, while CRM supplies customer and organization relationships. The examined registrations declare no custom-field capability, and none of the module’s operations is published to Submissions. Fixture-based membership and pricing behavior, the interim tax-zone boundary and the ownerless schedule surface remain decisions to resolve before implementation preparation.
