The page tree determines addresses and redirects
Context
The approved page tree also determines page addresses. Redirects preserve access to previously published locations.
Decision
Page addresses derive from their tree position and slug, with the home page at the root; publication after an address change records permanent redirects.
Alternatives Considered
- Free-form addresses: Independent addresses would detach navigation structure from the decided address model.
Consequences
- A published move updates descendant addresses as well as the moved page.
- Unpublished address history does not create visitor redirects.
