Commerce Fulfillment Design Examination
Examination scope
I examined every design artifact and the fulfillment responsibility rows against the pinned service and console source, the authoring contract, the templates, the planning artifacts and the design brief. The initial draft named 353 source locators across 97 files; those files and their referenced anchors were opened, with additional persistence, registration, scheduling and shared-factory evidence checked where a claim depended on them. Observed behavior remains implementation evidence, and confirmation remains tied to an existing Andrew decision.
The examination is static verification with runtime enumeration of route declarations, followed by the documentation repository’s checks. It does not establish behavior by running the Commerce service integration suites. External Platform standards were unavailable, so their authority claims remain qualified rather than treated as verified approval.
Counts and coverage
| Design kind | Examined | Final text |
|---|---|---|
| SVC | 5 | 5 |
| ADR | 22 | 22 |
| DOM | 5 | 5 |
| SCR | 4 | 4 |
| STATE | 11 | 11 |
| WF | 19 | 19 |
| Total | 66 | 66 |
The structured review covers 77 domain invariants, 75 state declarations, 113 transitions, 30 invalid-transition declarations, 93 workflow hops, 240 distinct operations and 15 screen actions. Companion states are counted in their owning model.
| Coverage surface | Observed scope | Contract coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Service operations | Fulfillment 20; Shipping 43; Inventory 32; Operations 13; shared imports 132 | 240 of 240, with no access or permission-key mismatch |
| Inventory-hosted import operations | 33 routes among the shared import operations | Covered by the data-operations contract; counted once |
| Domain tables | 32 literal domain declarations | All mapped to the five Domain Objects |
| Shared infrastructure tables | One idempotency table and eight import-engine tables | Described by Operations and Data Operations contracts; no invented Domain Object |
| Built console surfaces | Operations; Fulfilment card; Shipments card; Create Shipment panel | Four of four contracted; warehouse surfaces remain service-only |
| Database/service lifecycles | Eleven models, including parcel/label and shipment/line companions | Mapped to source checks and owning workflows |
| Queue families | Obligation dispatch and import batches, each with a dead-letter queue | Dispatch and import workflows cover both families |
| Scheduled work | Minute dispatch, minute reconciliation, nightly inventory check, and the referenced Orders sweep | Corresponding workflows describe bounded work and failures |
| Cloud state-machine orchestration | None declared in the scoped module | No orchestration service invented |
| Inference | No model calls found in scoped service or console flows | Every Service, Workflow and Screen Contract retains an empty inference list; no Inference Operation required |
The table inventory includes 33 literal module declarations and eight shared-engine declarations. The operation inventory comes from the installed route factories rather than only counting handwritten route objects. Domain ownership and exposed operations agree with the responsibility rows; those rows now enumerate every contracted operation instead of using a grouped placeholder.
Live console mode is the default. Mock and preview flags require explicit opt-in, and customer production deployments disallow them. Provider selection is also documented: deployed financial facts use the position view, deployed audit uses Platform, omitted values select fixtures, and cost relief defaults to purchasing layers; missing queue or service configuration can refuse work rather than silently enable a substitute.
Changes by artifact
Each artifact received an OpenAI rewrite of its body and structured prose, preserving permanent identifiers and evidence metadata except the verified corrections below. The fulfillment responsibility text was rewritten, and its exposed-operation list was expanded from selected names and a shared-import placeholder to 240 exact operation names. Other modules’ responsibility rows were preserved. The module status records examination; all approval statuses and existing product decisions remain unchanged.
Evidence and intent corrections
| Artifact or field | Verified correction |
|---|---|
| Service access and permission metadata | System callback access replaces internal access; public health permissions use none; annotations were removed from permission values while retaining the exact keys. |
| Service health evidence | Added the installed shared route factory and its lockfile pin. |
| Shipping configuration deletion | Zone deletion cascades its strategies; carrier and warehouse restrictions cite their actual tables. |
| Enforcement restoration anchor | Replaced the nonexistent restoration helper with outcome settlement in the obligation worker. |
| Parcel and carrier-label states | Removed the unsupported parcel request state and added carrier-label attempt states and transitions under their real persistence anchors. |
| Shipment-line states | Added line-only allocated, released, short and cancellation-pending declarations and their divergent source-backed transitions. |
| Backorder replenishment | Corrected the effects to row replacement at the supplying item rather than mutation of an immutable allocation item. |
| Authorization decision intent | Changed confirmed to proposed where the claimed approval depended on unavailable external authority. |
| Complete configuration payload | Kept it proposed because optional replacement properties are not all required by validation. |
| Screen route and defaults | Removed the explanatory panel suffix from the route and added live/mock selection evidence. |
Source revisions, permanent identifiers, ownership, capability references and implementation-evidence values were retained. New findings use newly allocated identifiers; no existing identifier was reused. Planning artifacts were not edited.
Findings and open disagreements
| Finding | Unresolved issue |
|---|---|
| FND-COM-FUL-045 | Carrier purchase intent belongs to the label attempt, while the parcel remains packed. The incorrect design state was removed. |
| FND-COM-FUL-046 | A terminal obligation outcome can commit before history and enforcement settlement; stale replay can leave those later writes incomplete. Staff reauthorization also does not reset a failed enforcement for settlement. |
| FND-COM-FUL-047 | Handoff checks the obligations it finds without proving complete unit coverage, conflicting with the stronger planning safety expectation. |
| FND-COM-FUL-048 | Complete replacement payloads are a proposed policy rather than a uniformly enforced route requirement. |
| FND-COM-FUL-049 | Bounded recovery and repeated first-page policy scans do not support the draft’s guaranteed timing or continuation claim. |
| FND-COM-FUL-050 | Unavailable Platform authority cannot confirm the authorization decision. The design intent was downgraded pending evidence. |
| FND-COM-FUL-051 | Concurrent pick-list creation can pass the membership precheck and duplicate work across lists. The stronger planning invariant needs implementation work or an Andrew decision. |
| FND-COM-FUL-052 | An enforcement can be retained before its dispatch or review record; duplicate processing skips existing enforcement and can strand the remaining work. |
Existing findings and seven open questions remain. Product still needs to resolve warehouse acknowledgement timing, stock-findings placement, shared intervention-ledger ownership, the shipment dialog’s discarded inputs, rate selection across warehouses, and post-disposition financial continuation. The missing planning-level no-inference declaration and unavailable external standards remain findings because this job cannot edit the planning layer or verify an absent repository. The earlier health-name uncertainty is closed by the installed factory evidence.
Validation
The final acceptance run completed dependency installation and corpus conformance with zero errors. The documentation test suite passed all four tests, with no failures or skips. These checks validate corpus structure and checker behavior; the source examination supplies the behavioral evidence.
Verdict for Andrew
The examined design is a faithful account of the scoped module at the pinned revisions when read with its explicit findings and proposed intent values. Its weakest area is recovery after partial cross-record work, including incomplete replay and concurrency protection. Before implementation preparation, decide the warehouse timing and stock-findings questions, shared intervention ownership and replacement policy, then assign fixes or explicit decisions for the handoff, picking and recovery disagreements.
